Taoiseach Simon Harris has confirmed Kilcoole Primary School's new build is progressing as letter of intent has been issued from the Department of Education to the successful contractor.
Kilcoole's primary school is set to benefit from a new build of 12 mainstream classrooms and 5 additional classrooms for children with special educational needs.
Speaking today, Taoiseach Simon Harris said:
“This is great news for Kilcoole Primary School, the students and the families in the area.
"Many families and the staff of Kilcoole Primary School have been waiting for too long for this news.
"I am thrilled to see progress being made, bringing us one step closer to the construction of these new classrooms.
Taoiseach Simon Harris added:
“Since becoming Taoiseach I have been laser focussed in trying to push new school buildings to construction in Wicklow and across the country.
"As a TD in Wicklow I know too well how difficult it has been for parents dealing with school place shortages.
"We must put every lever at government's disposal to ensure we match demand with capacity.
"I want to pay tribute to the many staff, parents and families involved in progressing this school building to construction.
"We have worked so hard for this new build and now there is light at the end of the tunnel.
"Children in Kilcoole deserve the best school facilities and with this new build they will get state of the art classrooms.
