The Taoiseach has suggested there will be income tax cuts in the next budget.
Leo Varadkar also says the country must pay down its debt and build up an anti-austerity fund for the future.
He has been speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Gateway event at Powerscourt in Wicklow.
He says he doesn't want a repeat of the austerity measures of the past when there is a reduction in revenue.
He says he's also hopeful a future British Government will want a closer relationship with the EU.
However, he says that could happen without rejoining the bloc.
He says the door will always be open for better co-operation between Britain and the European Union:
