Gardaí in Portlaoise are investigating a fatal crash on the M7 yesterday evening.
It brings to 4 the number killed on Irish roads over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The three vehicle collision happened close to the intersection of the M7 and M8 motorway shortly after 7pm yesterday.
A man in his 80s was taken to University Hospital Limerick in a serious condition and later passed away.
The male driver of a second car who is in his 40s was also removed to UHL in a serious condition.
A female passenger in that car, recieved non-life threatening injuries.
Three people from a third car, including a child, were also taken to hospital for treatment.

On Saturday a 19 year old motorcyclist died when his bike was involved in a collision with another motorbike and a taxi on the Finglas Road in Dublin.
on Sunday, a man in his 80s died when a car hit a tree at loughlin's Bridge in Co Tipperary.
And yesterday morning a man aged in his 70s died when he was involved in a single vehicle crash on the Mullingar Road at Kilbeggan in Westmeath.
