Health Minister Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly has come under criticism for saying a Zero Covid strategy is not possible in Ireland.
The Minister made the remarks in the Seanad last night as new legislation on mandatory hotel quarantine was passed.
During yesterday's debate Health Minister Stephen Donnelly rejected the idea that introducing mandatory hotel quarantine for all people coming into Ireland was the right approach.
He said those proposing that in order to achieve Zero COVID in Ireland were wrong about how long it would take.
The Minister suggested even harsher restrictions would be needed until the autumn to get to zero Covid.
While the opposition is largely united on mandatory hotel quarantine, no shift in government policy is on the way.
