Health Minister Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly's backed proposals to lift the time-limited ban on gay and bi-sexual men giving blood.
Currently they can't donate blood until 12 months after they've had sex with another man.
That'll be reduced to four months next March and cut further later next year, when it will be based on an individual assessment.
