The Health Minister, Wicklow TD Simon Harris will announce a 2 million euro fund today for couples experiencing fertility problems.
It's part of a move to set up IVF services in State hospitals for the first time.
Initially, fertility services will be widened for men and women to undergo tests to find out what is preventing them having children.
Ireland and Lithuania are the only two EU countries that don't offer state funding for IVF.
