Gardai in Wicklow are joining their colleagues nationwide, as they carry out roadside checks on tyres on vehicles for Tyre Safety Day today.
Motorists with defective tyres on their vehicles run the risk of receiving 4 penalty points and a 120 euro fine.
Defective tyres are linked to 14 deaths annually.
