Gardaí in Wicklow are renewing their appeal on the 17th anniversary of the murder of Paul 'Frank' Byrne in 2009.
The 20-year-old's remains were found in a wooded area near Blessington two weeks after he was last seen in Tallaght, having left in a wine-coloured Mitsubishi Carisma car.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the case since 2009, but no one has been brought to justice. His remains were found on the 29th of July, 2010.
Detective Inspector Seamus Ryan from Bray Garda station has made this appeal on East Coast FM:
''We're renewing our appeal to look for information in relation to our ongoing investigation. 20-year-old Paul Frank Byrne was discovered in a wooded area near Blessington, on the 29th of July 2010. And he would have last seen a year earlier in the Tallaght area, Dublin 24, and and he would have left that estate there in the wine-coloured Mitsubishi Charisma, accompanied by other males.''
Renewed appeal
''And that was the last sighting of Paul. And yeah, the investigation has progressed and several arrests have been made in relation to, however no one has been brought to justice in relation to this matter. So it's now 17 years on since he was last seen, and Gardaí at Blessington Station are renewing their appeal for assistance and any information in relation to Paul's disappearance and murder.
And so any information that they may have since 2009 and if they've come into possession of any information in the intervening years to come forward. And we can always assure the public that we'll treat anyone assisting the investigation in a sensitive manner and in a stricter sense of confidence. Anyone is encouraged with the information to contact Blessington at 045 865 202 or to call the confidential line 1800 666 111 or any Gardaí station for that matter.''
Piece The Puzzle
''Yeah, who's to say allegiances might have changed over the years and 17 years on relationships or associations may have changed.
So through the passage of time people might now feel more comfortable sharing information with Gardaí and no matter how insignificant they feel the information may be it could be that little piece of the puzzle that could help us to make progress with this investigation.''
Anyone with information can contact Gardaí in Blessington at (045) 857620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
