Four gardaí and a private individual will face charges as part of a two-year garda investigation into alleged garda corruption in the south of the country.
According to RTE, All five are accused of perverting the course of justice after an investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, following suspicions in 2019 that information was being leaked regarding a CAB investigation into the activities of a gang in Munster, believed to be involve in a number of crimes including drug trafficking.
In March of 2019 eight searches were carried out by gardai, who seized 115 cars and several thousand euro and sterling believed to be the proceeds of crime. The Garda Commissioner suspended 11 members of the force because of the investigation, one subsequently retired. Two others, a garda and a civilian, have already been charged.
