Despite hospitals being overloaded with high numbers of winter flu cases in recent years, the Health Minister, Wicklow T.D. Stephen Donnelly says there have been no recorded cases of the flu this year.
According to the Health Protection Surveillance centre figures, by February of 2019, 2,319 people were hospitalised with confirmed influenza cases with 107 admitted to critical care units, and 45 flu related deaths recorded.
In February of 2020, 3,462 people were hospitalised with the flu, with 124 admitted to I.C.U. and 92 flu related deaths.
Speaking on East Coast FM’s morning Show, Minister Donnelly rejected suggestions that flu cases this year are being included in Covid-19 figures.
