The former chairman of Anglo Irish Bank Sean FitzPatrick and his wife have been refused planning permission to construct a second house on the site of a fire-damaged cottage beside their family home in Greystones.
According to the Irish Independent, in its decision, Wicklow County Council said the property on Farm Lane in the Burnaby, Greystones would be “cramped” and “out of character” with the area.
It also expressed concern that by granting permission, it would set a precedent and lead to a spate of similar applications.
The couple have already been granted permission to build a four-bedroom house on the plot.
