Unemployment is expected to peak at around 10 per cent in the third quarter of the year, according to the Central Bank.
It's projecting an average of 225 thousand people to be officially unemployed in 2021, with the economy set to start recovering from the pandemic in July. A further pick up is anticipated in 2022, as consumer confidence grows and people start to spend more freely.
