40% Of All Dublin Bus Drivers Experience Anti-Social Behaviour While At Work

The National Bus and Rail Union is calling on the Minister for Transport Shane Ross to establish a new Garda Public Transport division to tackle the issue.

The National Bus and Rail Union is calling on the Minister for Transport Shane Ross to establish a new Garda Public Transport division to tackle the issue.

The NBRU says there have been nearly 1,000 incidents of anti-social behaviour on board Dublin Buses in six so-called "hotspots" around the city so far this year.

The news comes as gardai confirm they are investigating after a bus driver was injured when a rock came through the window of the 77a in Tallaght just before 11pm last Friday night.

The Union has written to the Transport Minister appealing for him to set up a specialist garda division to stop anti-social behaviour on public transport.

But Shane Ross says it would be the responsibility of the Garda Commissioner and is not in his remit.

Dublin Bus says given the fact that it operates over 1,000 buses, the level of anti-social behaviour is low and has decreased over the last number of years.
