Waterford has become the first county to ask all parents not to send their child to school with a phone.
It follows a similar initiative in eight Greystones schools in Wicklow earlier this year.
It's as concerns around cyber-bullying and increased screentime grow.
Reacting to the decision Minster for Education Norma Foley acknowledged the proactive approach in Waterford and is now looking at ways all schools can be supported if they wish to do similar.
