The DART extension to Wicklow Town won't be operational until before the end of the decade.
An update from the National Transport Authority noted a new fleet of battery electric trains have been ordered but further testing is needed and a project team is currently working on developing a proposal.
During their recent briefing for Wicklow County Council the NTA mentioned that they had explored the idea of introducing a diesel-fuelled shuttle train between Wicklow Town and Greystones, but this was dismissed as it would require the construction of a third platform at the Greystones station.
Services are not expected to begin until 2029 at the latest.
