Environmental concerns scuppered plans for the Blessington Greenway amid fears over conservation
Local councillors are examining alternatives after planning for the Blessington Greenway was refused.
Concerns were raised about the lack of information on the potential environmental impact on the conservation of native bird species and drinking water quality at the Poulaphouca reservoir.
Fears the project would have adverse impacts on the surrounding area of the Wicklow mountains were also highlighted.
Council Chief executive Emer O’ Gorman told members at their June meeting that proposals were submitted that will look at developing a promenade link the lakes together.
€6.4 million was allocated as part of plans to improve walking and cycling greenways around the country in 2020.
