Wicklow County Council has received a planning application for the new Greystones Community College.
Council officials now have two weeks to review the plans and then have a further eight weeks before making a decision.
Once permission is granted, it's expected the project could reach completion within 18 months of the first sod being turned.
Meanwhile plans are moving forward for a site for the new North Wicklow Educate Together School in Bray.
