The Department of Education has submitted an application to Wicklow County Council to provide temporary accommodation for Greystones Community College on the grounds of Eire Og GAA Club.
The accommodation block will provide 16 classrooms with a science lab and space for students with special additional needs.
The move comes after a deal was reached this week with developers Cairn to purchase a permanent site for the college, close to the Shoreline leisure centre in Charlesland.
Welcoming the news, Minister Simon Harris says management need certainty that they can move to the temporary site by the new school year.
