Wicklow County Council has issued a second warning letter to a landowner in relation to a fence that’s been erected, blocking public access to the North beach in Arklow.
Local residents group ARROW have been campaigning against the move by the landowner, to block the right of way, which they say has been in place for generations.
In the letter the Council says it’s satisfied that the fence erected along the southern boundary is not exempted development, as it is it is enclosing land that has been used by the public for recreational purposes or a means to access the seashore during the previous 10 years.
Local councillor Mary McDonald says this latest warning letter gives the named individuals four weeks to respond. She says if this letter is ignored then the council must issue an enforcement notice and take legal action if necessary.
