Cliff Walk Update Welcomed By Greystones Councillor Stephen Stokes.

Cllr Stokes remarked that getting the Cliff Walk fully reopened is of great importance.

Cllr Stephen Stokes again raised the issue of the Cliff Walk at the monthly meeting of the Greystones Municipal District on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022. He welcomed the more direct approach that Wicklow County Council is preparing.

A small section on the Greystones side is currently closed. Wicklow County Council wishes to move this particular section further inland. Wicklow County Council Legal Team have been negotiating access over a protracted period. Cllr Stokes stated:

"Wicklow County Council has not been able to make a breakthrough in negotiations with the landowner so far. This is still the preferred option of course. However the big update is that Wicklow County Council is now preparing a compulsory purchase order, if needed."

During the discussions at the October District meeting, Town Manager Michael Nicholson advised that the funding to do work has a deadline, towards the end of 2023. Cllr Stephen Stokes added:

"This is a time sensitive matter. Not only is there a funding deadline, but we do not want to miss another spring/summer season. In fairness I believe that the Wicklow County Council Officials are keen to see this matter resolved as a priority. So they are now about to draw up maps in case they need to pursue a CPO."

Cllr Stokes remarked that getting the Cliff Walk fully reopened is of great importance. He concluded:

"The Cliff Walk is vital as it provides a wonderful and healthy amenity for communities in North Wicklow. Additionally it brings in vital tourism to our local businesses in Greystones."
