Calls Made For Local Council To Have More Power In Building Houses

Yesterday, President Michael D Higgins spoke out, describing the housing crisis as the country's greatest failure.

Figures from the Department of Housing show just over 5-thousand-2-hundred social housing units were built last year.

The homes were built by local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies.

Senior Lecturer in Housing at Technological University Dublin, Dr Lorcan Sirr, says councils should have more influence on housing in their local area.
