TD Jennifer Whitmore is calling on Minister Eamon Ryan to provide a detailed plan on how to roll out the long-awaited service.Minister Ryan recently stated that he was in support of the extension of the DART service to Wicklow Town, however, as noted by Jennifer Whitmore, this is not yet a part of the National Development Plan.Deputy Whitmore said: “We have been talking about the delivery of DART to Wicklow Town for many years in Wicklow. Local Government TDs have been speaking about it as though it is a done deal, yet every time I raise it with the National Transport Authority, they tell me that money has not been ringfenced for it yet. Every time I raise this issue with the Minister, he tells me he “would” like to see it and that it “could” be delivered in a matter of years, but again, there is no concrete commitment to this.“We need to see a step-by-step plan mapped out for the delivery of DART expansion from Greystones to Wicklow Town with fixed deadlines. Public transport infrastructure is so important for a county like Wicklow, which has so many commuters daily.“In Wicklow, there are 58,715 people travelling to work in the county every day. According to the latest CSO data, most people drive to work while only 2,568 go by bus, and 2,717 go by train. Therefore, we can see there is an enormous number of people who are still using private cars to get to work.
