The very first public ‘Bring a Book Take a Book’ library was launched by Green TD Stephen Matthews and Councillor Erika Doyle in Sidmonton Park, in Bray. The project is the result of a collaboration between Loreto Secondary School Bray, Bray Tidy Towns and the Residents’ Association of Sidmonton Park. A diligent and conscientious team of community focused students in Loreto Bray developed the idea of a community focused approach to promoting reading for wellbeing and mindfulness. The students have linked up with local organisations like Purple House and Open Door to promote their concept and are reaching out to the community through their virtual book club @thebraybookshelf. The Bray Bookshelf aims to provide reading recommendations and reviews for all ages and interests, along with a ‘Book of the Month’ read-a-long. To join the journey simply follow @thebraybookshelf on Instagram or scan the QR code. The team in Loreto are grateful to the support of Joe Roe from Bray Tidy Towns, the ever-supportive residents of Sidmonton Park and to Jim Kelly for building the library.
