Almost €6.5 million has been allocated by the government towards the Blessington Greenway.
In total €63.5 million is being provided to Greenways throughout the country for 2021.
Wicklow is to benefit with the Blessington Loop receiving €6.4 million towards developing phase 2 of the project, which will consist of over 42km of a walking and cycling trail around the Blessington Lakes, taking in surrounding villages.
Phase 1 of the Blessington Greenway, was launched almost 7 years ago and consists of a 6km walk from Blessington to Russborough, which has been a huge benefit in attracting tourists to the area as well as providing a much needed leisure amenity for locals.
