A new community-based CCTV system linking directly into the local garda station has been activated in Blessington.
The project has been welcomed by Blessington and District Forum, An Garda Síochána, Baltinglass Municipal District and the Blessington Town Team, and is seen as a long overdue measure to help tackle crime in the area.
During 2017, Blessington and District Forum set up a Sub-Committee to deliver the project, which consisted of Michael Sargent, Jason Mulhall, John Horan, and Detective Sergeant Dermot Treacy of Blessington Garda Station. From 2019 the project was taken forward by Wicklow County Council and in particular by Baltinglass Municipal District Administrators Garvan Hickey and Liam Cullen, who worked to move the project to completion.
