Action Group aims to turn Baltinglass Hillfort complex into UNESCO World Heritage Site.
THE West Wicklow Wind Action Group (WWWAG) formed to protect Kilranelagh Hill from development as a wind farm will now turn their attention toward establishing the Baltinglass Hillfort complex as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In March of last year, Wicklow County Council refused ABO Wind Limited planning for a ten-year grant of permission to construct five 165m wind turbines at Kilranelagh Hill. Concerns were raised about the impact of the development on the visual relationships between the hillforts within the Baltinglass Hillfort Complex and other historic features of the surrounding landscape.
