Organizers of the Arklow Seabreeze Festival says given the current advisory in place, regarding the threat of African Swine Fever and on the advice of the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Wicklow T.D. Andrew Doyle it’s been left with no choice but to cancel this year’s Pig Derby.
The event was due to take place this weekend, but an advisory from the department has advised against having pigs in a position where they are in contact with the general public.
The Tullamore Show and the Ploughing championships had already imposed a ban on pigs at their events this year.
The Seabreeze Festival committee says it regrets having to cancel the race, but say an alternative event will be put in place.
