Enniskerry cyclist Lara Gillespie, is Ireland’s first female gold medal, track world cycling champion.
Lara Gillespie’s historic achievement as Ireland’s first female track cycling world champion has been honoured by Wicklow County Council. A special Civic Reception was held on11 Monday evening to celebrate the Enniskerry cyclist's historic achievement as Ireland’s first female track cycling world champion.
Family, friends and invited guests joined councillors in the council chamber for the event, which highlighted Gillespie’s remarkable journey and her gold-medal win at the 2025 UCI Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Melanie Corrigan praised Gillespie’s “remarkable triumph,” while Chief Executive Emer O’Gorman said her success shows the power of nurturing local talent and investing in sport at community level:

It reinforces the value of investing in sport and physical activity, ensuring that diverse opportunities are open to all, regardless of background or ability.
