Wicklow hospice hero has been recognised ahead of coffee morning fundraiser

A Wicklow based business owner has been recognised for years of fundraising for a local hospice.

The managing director of DNG Thornton Properties Anna Thornton is the host of the Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice since 2021.

Together for Hospice, The National Hospice Movement, represents 24 Hospice and specialist palliative homecare providers for patients and their families across Ireland. 

The funds raised will is used to fund new buildings, extra comforts for patients and their families, and innovative patient care projects.

Funds raised through Together For Hospice campaigns support some of the core services funded by the HSE.

The national fundraiser aims to raise over €2m and officially takes place on September 25.

Supporters can host or attend a coffee morning on any date that suits them, with every cent raised locally going to their local Hospice.

This year’s event in aid of Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services Wicklow will take place on Thursday, September 25, between 10.00am and 1.00pm.

And, as President of the Wicklow Town and District Chamber of Commerce, Anna has ensured Wicklow Hospice is the Chamber’s charity partner for the year.

Anna’s work was honoured recently at Bewley’s Grafton Street Café, where she received a Together for Hospice Hero Award.

“I have many friends with family members who have needed the amazing services and support provided by Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services Wicklow,” said Anna.

“When I opened my own office in August 2021, as well as doing something to mark the occasion, more importantly, I wanted to do something to give back to the community.

“I have lived in Wicklow Town for over 40 years and know how important it is to support what is local.

“And Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services is vital to so many in our community.

“The Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice is the focal point of our social calendar now.

“It’s critical that people support Wicklow Hospice, regardless of whether they have had had a family member or friend who needed it, though everybody knows somebody who has.

“Across all areas of life, if you can help, you should. It is as simple as that.”
