Fianna Fáil's health spokesperson, Stephen Donnelly, says it's a very worrying development.
A hospital group chairman was asked not to highlight significant under-reporting of delayed discharges from hospital beds.
That's according to a letter to Junior Health Minister Jim Daly, obtained by the Sunday Independent.
Graham Knowles, of the University of Limerick Hospitals Group, claims a HSE official told him it was 'important not to damage confidence in the HSE'.
Mr Knowles describes the HSE official's comments as 'unacceptable'.
Mr Knowles was appointed by the Department of Health to lead a national working-group on delayed discharges.
