Wicklow TD John Brady has backed the Oireachtas Special Committee on Covid-19 in its call for a public inquiry into the number of deaths which took place in nursing homes throughout the state, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Last June it was revealed there were 31 deaths at six different nursing homes across County Wicklow, included the deaths of 24 residents in Bray, 10 of those were in just one nursing home.
Deputy Brady says the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in a nursing home in Ireland was on March the 13th.
On the 23rd of March, a decision was taken to move residents from the Crooksling facility, which serves West Wicklow, to Tymon North in Tallaght. Twelve of these residents died after being moved.
John Brady says he wants these deaths included in any public inquiry that he believes should take place.
