Wicklow Member of Down Syndrome Ireland kicks off Purple Run

Will you run, walk or jog 42km across October for Down Syndrome Ireland?

Have you heard of the Purple Run? It's a month-long challenge in October, to coincide with Down Syndrome Awareness Month. And ... you can join in!

The charity is asking members of the public to run a marathon (42km) across the month to help raise vital funds.

Sophie O’Connell from Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow is one of three members of Down Syndrome Ireland helping to launch the campaign.

All three gained employment through the charity’s National Employment Programme. Sophie works in the Clayton Hotel, while Nathan Sako and Darren Breen, both from Dublin, work in the Grafton Barber.

Speaking about her role in hospitality, Sophie O’Connell says:

“It makes me happy. I really like working in the Clayton Hotel. I love to clean tables and make teas, coffees, and hot chocolates, and give people cakes! I work with lots of nice people, I have loads of friends there. I meet lots of people there who are staying in the hotel. I like talking to them, and I like getting tips so I can go on holidays and buy dresses!”

Why not sign up? You can take part on your own or as group.  G'wan! You'll get a limited-edition running top and access to the Purple Run online group. Registration is open.

Do it for Down Syndrome Ireland  - Sophie will thank you!
