Wicklow Customers Left in The Dark by Increased ESB Power Cuts

Planned and unplanned power cuts in Wicklow jumped by 20% last year.

Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is raising concerns about the increase in power cuts faced by homes and businesses.

Figures provided to the Ireland South MEP by ESB show a significant rise across its network year on year since 2021.

The wider Wicklow area faced 1,725 planned and unplanned outages in 2024, a jump of over 20% on the previous year.

Across the national grid power cuts went up by 40% last year.

Bird strikes, weather issues and defective equipment are among the reasons provided.
