Over €714,000 has been approved in funding for 25 community groups around the country for the development of specialist sensory gardens.
These gardens are designed to stimulate the senses and can be of particular benefit in enhancing the quality of life for people living with disabilities.
The funding is provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development, through the CLÁR investment programme, which provides finance for small-scale infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered the greatest levels of population decline.
Under the plan, Knockananna Community Group in County Wicklow is to receive €34,000 for the development of a garden in the area.
Other counties targeted include Carlow, Tipperary, Cork and Sligo.
