Wicklow County Council is about to publish a new Draft Local Planning Framework for Arklow

Want to help shape the future of Arklow? You have over a month to add your input.

Wicklow County Council is publishing the new Draft Local Planning Framework for Arklow and you can have six weeks to consider it and have your say.

The council is opening its consultation process and accepting submissions from 1st October to 12th November 2025.

Want to find out more? A public information day will be held at the Arklow Municipal District Office on Thursday 23rd October from 10am to 12:30pm and from 4pm to 7pm.  

What's the purpose of the Local Planning Framework?

Good question! It guides the future sustainable development of Arklow. Once adopted, it replaces the previous Local Area Plan of 2018. The idea is to build on successes and adapt to reflect updated planning policies and issues.

The Framework should also ensure housing targets for town can be achieved.

The Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District, Cllr. Miriam Murphy says:

We want to hear your thoughts on how this area can grow into a thriving, inclusive, and well-connected community — one that supports people of all ages, abilities, and lifestyles. Your input will directly influence the long-term planning strategy and ensure Arklow continues to be a dynamic and welcoming place for everyone.   I would strongly encourage anyone that is interested in influencing the future development of Arklow to make their views known through making a submission.
