Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore has welcomed the progress being made on the site for the new coastguard station in Greystones Harbour.
Deputy Whitmore said “This facility is a long-promised and much needed one for the town of Greystones. I have followed up frequently on the delivery of this project due to its importance and I am happy to have received an update from the Minister’s office this week on the matter.
“In responce to my parliamentary question, the Minister confirmed that the tender process is due to be finalised in the coming weeks. Once the tender process is completed, it is anticipated that it will take approx. 14 months for the construction of the station. While this is welcome news, it is important that these deadlines are kept, and I will continue to stay in close communication with the Minister and the OPW to ensure that happens.
“As a coastal town with an extremely active seashore, Greystones needs these facilities as a matter of pressing urgency. This project has been so long promised, and there have been several false dawns on this matter before. While these recent steps taken are more concrete, it cannot be allowed to stall now.”
