Seven Wicklow organisations will share €694,300 in funding for planned projects under the Community Recognition Fund, which includes major investments in sports clubs, community centres, parks, walking trails and playgrounds.
The largest share of the fund will go to Old Coolatin County Club, CLG and Wicklow County Council, with €150,000 allocated for Carnew community land development.
A total of €144,000 will go towards the development of a multi-use games area for Dunlavin GAA Club, while the Arklow Town Team will receive €135,000 for an upgrade to St Peter’s Place Playground.
Newtown GAA Club get €100,000 for the development of a walkway and the Imaal Hall Committee in Dunlavin is due to receive €60,800 for the upgrade of their facilities.
Finally, Rathdrum Playground Committee will use their €54,500 allocation for a park placemaking project and Bray Area Partnership has €50,000 for the purchase of a new vehicle.
Speaking about the funding, Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “I am delighted to see this investment benefit communities across Wicklow in a diverse range of projects such as a walkway for Newtown GAA, the development of new facilities in Dunlavin GAA Club, the purchase of a new vehicle for Bray Area Partnership and so much more.
The projects that are being delivered with state funding are vital to the communities and the organisations that have put the applications in for funding. As Taoiseach and as a TD for Wicklow I want to see this government deliver for families and communities.
