Catherine Martin has urged Green Party supporters to stick with them after a number of members quit the party yesterday.
Saoirse McHugh was the most high profile member to leave - saying she couldn't stand being connected to the party since it entered government.
A further division in the party was highlighted as Eamon Ryan won the leadership contest by less than 50 votes.
That sparked a heated exchange on the twitter page of Wicklow’s Green party T.D. Stephen Matthews, after he was accused of lacking class and respect, by posting a smiley face following the contest result, with several posts calling on him to remove the imoji.
