An Post has unveiled new autumn stamps. The set celebrates Ireland’s native trees and features Silver Birch, Rowan, and Hawthorn. Each stamp shows colourful leaves embossed with gold foil.
They are created by Wicklow botanical artist Yanny Petters and designer Jenny Dempsey. Last weekend Yanny shared a post on Instagram of an early draft watercolour painting of a hawthorn leaf as a hint at how the stamps will look, explaining:
I’m excited for the launch of ‘Changing Leaves’ when An Post will launch the stamps I was commissioned to illustrate earlier this year...The image here is an early draft watercolour painting of a hawthorn leaf and just a hint at how the stamps look. I’m delighted with how the finished designs look, with a little sparkle of gold and the rich watercolours making the images glow
The stamps are available from Thursday 25th September. The release coincides with National Tree Day on 2nd October and highlights the changing colours of Ireland’s woodlands this autumn.
Who knew such beautiful work goes into designing stamp!
