Tánaiste Simon Harris is confirmed to perform the official unveiling.
The launch of the Rocky Road Improvement Scheme will take place in September with Tánaiste Simon Harris confirmed to perform the official unveiling.
The €500,000 investment in the Rocky Road deliver a completely revamped route in and out of Wicklow Town. The road itself will be widened and new footpaths provided.
The Fine Gael leader this week confirmed he'll perform the official opening in late September, in the company of the newly elected chairperson of the municipal district Councillor Graham Richmond.
Speaking this week, Simon Harris said:
“I really look forward to visiting the Rocky Road in September for the official unveiling of improvement works that I know are long overdue.
“I’ve heard first hand from Councillor Graham Richmond and Wicklow residents alike about the issues associated with this particular route.
“I’ve aware that it’s dangerous for two vehicles to pass at the one time and there are also concerns for the safety of people out walking, particularly at night.
“This substantial investment from the Department of Transport will be instrumental in revamping the Rocky Road for the benefit of so many residents and commuters.”
The Tánaiste concluded:
“Investing in our road facilities and other transport projects is top priority of mine as Tánaiste and TD for Wicklow.
“In fact, earlier this year, I was pleased to announce a €15 million funding package for projects right across the county,
“That package includes €8 million for restoration improvements of our roads, and €1 million for road maintenance.
Adding:
“I want to commend Wicklow County Council and indeed the Department of Transport for working together, along with our councillors, to ensure this money is well spent.”
