Judge avoids issuing custodial sentence for pensioner who was found guilty of endangering shop manager during incident in 2023.
A retired tradesman has avoided a prison sentence over an incident in a supermarket car park in Wicklow Town.
67-year-old Thomas O'Connor of Two-Mile-House, Ballinteskin drove a short distance with a shop manager on the bonnet of his car following a row in the store.
Mr. O’Connor pleaded guilty to a charge of endangerment over the incident at Lidl supermarket on Rathnew Road on July 3th 2023.
Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court heard that there had been an issue between the store’s assistant manager and the accused in relation to the payment for a small item.
Judge Terence O’Sullivan said there was no justification for endangering the store official, but fully suspended a six-month sentence on condition that he keep the peace.
Judge O’Sullivan also said he would not impose any driving disqualification on him.
