Progress Confirmed For New School Build At Coláiste Chraobh Abhann.

The large extension of the school will aim to increase school capacity and should cater for 1,000 pupils.

Minister for Education Norma Foley TD today announced the progression of the ‘Project Boyne’ bundle of school building projects for over 5,750 students.

The six large scale projects are being delivered across schools in counties Carlow, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow by the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) on a devolved basis for the Department.

The Department has today issued authorisation to complete the remaining work on the preparation of tender documents required for public procurement of building contractors for all six schools for the end of the year, in two lots.

Speaking today, Taoiseach Simon Harris said:

“Today is another step in the right direction to tackle the issue of school place shortages in Wicklow.

“Yet again, the Department of Education has confirmed another school building project is to get underway in Wicklow which is very welcome news for parents and children across the county.

“I have always been clear, the scale of development in Wicklow has to be met with the scale of infrastructure development and that mean making sure we have the adequate number of school places.

“Since I have become Taoiseach I have been tireless and steadfast in my approach having consistently sought for progress on school building projects in County Wicklow.

“I will continue to work with the Department of Education and ensure that school building projects are progressed as the year goes on.

“I know from speaking to a number of parents, they can no longer wait, they need to see boots on the ground and I won’t rest until capacity meets demand.

“The children across County Wicklow deserve state of the art facilities and they will get that through these new school building projects.

“I want to thank all who have been involved so far in getting this project over the line.
