Road-users in Wicklow and beyond are urged to be cautious while travelling following heavy downpours overnight.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange rain and thunderstorm warning for Wicklow with risks of widespread surface flooding and very difficult travelling conditions.
The alert, also covering counties Dublin, Louth and Meath came into force at midnight and will last until 2pm. Impacts include “very difficult” travelling conditions, lightning damage and “very poor” visibility.
Road-users in eastern areas are being urged to take extra care and be vigilant this morning, following heavy downpours overnight.
A yellow rain warning is also in place for Kildare until 2pm. The forecaster said potential impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
Some employers have told employees to work from home where possible to avoid travelling.
