Environmental campaigners have noted that the site could be used to double the area of Kindlestown Woods.
The Environment National Parks and Wildlife Service have announced that they will consider buying land beside Glen of the Downs.
This comes after members of Wicklow County Council unanimously voted to ask the State to buy the 197 acres of land.
