The Minister for Education, Norma Foley is being urged to push forward with plans to develop a new secondary school in Newtownmountkennedy.
Wicklow T.D. John Brady says school placement issues in Kilcoole and Greystones are finally being resolved for September, after months of stress for parents and pupils.
But he says the crisis should never have been allowed to happen and the minister should act now, to prevent a similar situation occurring in the future.
Deputy Brady says a number of new primary schools have opened in the Newtown catchment area and these children will require a secondary school place in 8 years’ time.
He says the land is already set aside and work should get underway now to ensure a secondary school is in place to meet future needs.
