Wicklow have firmly surged into the promotion race in divison four of the Allianz football league after a commanding 16-point win over London in Aughrim on Sunday afternoon, delivering their most impressive performance of the campaign to date.

Wicklow's forwards were on song showcasing attacking flair, defensive discipline, and ruthless efficiency in front of goal.

The result moves Wicklow onto six points, leaving them second in the league table, just two points adrift of unbeaten pace-setters Carlow.

From the opening exchanges, the hosts in Aughrim set the tempo, pressing aggressively and moving the ball at pace.

Their attacking intent paid dividends, with Kevin Quinn leading the charge. The lively forward struck 1-4 from play, constantly troubling the London defence with his direct running and sharp finishing.

Eoin Darcy was equally influential, contributing four points from play in a six-point personal tally, while the ever-reliable Mark Jackson made a significant impact from between the posts, as well as weighing in with six points, including three two-pointers, highlighting Wicklow’s growing confidence in the new scoring system.

At the other end, Wicklow’s defensive unit limited London to limited scoring opportunities. Shay Rafter proved to be London’s primary threat, registering five points from play, but his efforts were not enough to stem the tide as London’s promotion ambitions suffered a major setback.

The second half saw Wicklow assert complete control, pulling away decisively with a series of well-worked scores and two crucial goals that underlined their superiority and killer instinct in front of the posts.

Speaking immediately after the final whistle, manager Oisín McConville praised his side’s work rate, intensity, and clinical edge, highlighting the maturity and confidence now evident in their performances.

With momentum firmly on their side, Wicklow will now look ahead with renewed belief as the battle for promotion continues, knowing that destiny remains firmly in their own hands.
