Eleven newly elected Fine Gael Mayors were welcomed to Government Buildings including the new Bray municipal district Cathaoirleach Melanie Corrigan last night.
The Tanaiste, Wicklow TD Simon Harris discussed a variety of issues with all the incoming new mayors including housing delivery, infrastructure and urgency of upgrading roads.
Simon Harris discussed several issues with Councillor Corrigan including the issues of the proposed closure of the Herbert Road in Bray:
''I was really delighted to welcome my colleague, the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Melanie Corrigan to government buildings last evening.
I wanted to sit down with Melanie and discuss her priorities for County Wicklow during her time as Cathaoirleach and how I can help as both as a Wicklow TD, as leader of Fine Gael and Tanaiste.
We discussed a range of issues housing delivery, the delivery of community infrastructure, social infrastructure things like sporting facilities, schools , of course the issue of the Herbert Road ... that cannot close, the issue of the N11 upgrade, the N81 upgrade.
We also talked about small businesses, the issues for farmers including getting a good Common Agricultural Policy and how we improve our disability services.
Absolutely delighted that Melanie is the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council and very much looking forward to working with her on these issues and issues of importance to the County Council in the year ahead.''
The Tanaiste extolled the vrtues of his party colleagues at local council level.
