Issues such as community policing, CCTV, drug statistics and traffic management were raised at a public meeting of Wicklow Council Joint Policing Committee (JPC) held in the Parkview Hotel, Newtownmountkennedy, on Wednesday the 4th of May. 

The purpose of the JPC is to provide a forum where the Local Authority, Senior Garda Officers, Public Representatives and Community Representatives can consult, discuss and make recommendations on matters affecting the policing of their area.

Superintendent Pat Connell gave a presentation outlining the specialist services provided in the Bray District which include Roads Policing Unit, Forensic Collision Investigator, Community Policing Unit, Detective Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Scenes of Crime Unit, Immigration Unit, Victim Service Office, Juvenile Liaison Office, Criminal Intelligence Office, Family Liaison, Ethnic Liaison & Crime Prevention Officers, Continuous Professional Development and National Support.

Issues raised related to community policing, CCTV, drug statistics in the area, traffic management, illegal dumping and phishing and smishing.

Chief Superintendent Anthony Pettit and Superintendent Pat Connell provided comprehensive responses to all questions raised.

Mr Brian Gleeson, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, thanked everyone for their attendance and contributions and took the opportunity to acknowledge the great working relationship between the Council and the Gardaí, particularly addressing many joint issues which arose during COVID.
