Fine Gael Councillor Irene Winters takes up the position for the next year.
While many would believe gender shouldn’t be an issue in 2019, Councillor Winters becomes only the third female to hold the position in the history of Wicklow County Council.
Tinahely Councillor for Fine Gael Mary Walsh was the first to hold the position between 1969 and 1970, while Labour’s Anne Ferris took the reins in 2007.
