
Both Gardaí and the HSA are continuing their investigations after the tragic workplace death of John Maher in Rathdrum
There have been warm and fulsome tributes paid to a tragic father-of-two who died in a workplace accident in County Wicklow on Wednesday.
The man who passed away on Wednesday has been named as John Maher. The father of two, who was in his 40s, had been working on a building site in Rathdrum.
He was originally from Portlaoise, but had been living in Rathangan in County Kildare.
Garda investigations into the incident remain ongoing after Mr Maher was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to St. Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown County Dublin for a post mortem examination.
The Health and safety Authority have also begun their own an investigation into the incident.
A death notice shared by Mr Maher's family on RIP.ie poignantly read:
"John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Tracey, sons Seán and Fionn, parents Pat and Mary, brother Liam, sisters Patricia and Eileen, parents in law Theo and Josie, brothers in law Tommy, David, John and Ciarán, sisters in law Dawn, Natasha and Laura, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, extended family, neighbours, friends and work colleagues.
"Pre-deceased by his uncles James and Seán Maher. May John Rest in Peace."
Mr Maher was a keen cyclist as part of Kildare Cycling Club, with fellow members expressing their heartbreak at the loss of their colleague in a message shared on social media.
"We are heartbroken at Kildare Cycling Club to share the news of the untimely passing of our dear friend and club member, John Maher".
"John was a great cyclist & a gentleman. John will be sorely missed by everyone at Kildare Cycling Club and in the wider community.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Tracey, his sons Seán and Fionn, and the wider Maher and Power family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
Mr. Maher's sudden death has left the community in Rathdrum bereft, friends, colleagues and neighbours reflecting upon the very well-liked father-of-two as 'a true gentleman' and 'the nicest gent you could meet'.

One person wrote:
"John was a great cyclist and a true gentleman. My sincerest condolences to his family."
He was further recalled by another sympathiser:
"Sincere condolences to Tracey, Sean and Fionn, the Maher & Power families on the very sad passing of John. He was a pure gentleman. Our hearts are absolutely breaking thinking of you all. May John rest in peace."
A third mourner said:
"To Tracey, Sean, Fionn and all the Maher and Power families. Our hearts are broken thinking of you all. John was the nicest gent you could meet. Holding you all in our hearts. May John’s gentle soul rest in peace."
